European Regional Transport
Security Series

The European Regional Transportation Security Series (ERTSS) seeks to increase awareness of the specific threats and risks associated with the transport of nuclear and other radioactive materials. The Series is designed to promote regional dialogue throughout central and eastern Europe about the need to secure these materials during transport. The Series is jointly hosted by Romania’s National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control and the United States Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration.

Each session features panel discussions with breakout rooms to explore emerging threats, critical weaknesses in current transport practices, successful transport security practices, and other related national and/or regional issues.

This Series follows the International Transport Security Symposium (ITSS) in Tokyo, Japan, in November 2019 and supports INFCIRC/909. The co-hosts of the ERTSS intend to provide a summary of lessons learned, key challenges, and recommendations from the Series at the 2021 International Conference on the Safe and Secure Transport of Nuclear and Radioactive Materials.
