Mr. Gary Smith is a senior transport security advisor for Oak Ridge National Laboratory, supporting the National Nuclear Security Administrations International nuclear and radioactive material security programs. Gary retired from the United States Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer in the Weapons of Mass Destruction Unit supporting intelligence and counterterrorism operations.
He has also served as a senior federal agent for NNSA in the Office of Secure Transport and in the Marine Corps as a Staff- Non-Commissioned Officer. He currently supports high-consequence transport and supply chain security programs, providing assessments, consultations, instruction and security implementation in support of the US Government’s national security programs. He has directly supported the International Atomic Energy Agency, co-authored several publications and developed international and domestic exercise programs focused on transport security.
Mr. Smith holds a Master of Science in environmental management and bachelor’s in environmental science.
